The 5 Pillars

Journey Well programming and coaching is approached from these 5 pillars:

1. Nutrition:

  1. Food is medicine.

  2. Food can be a source of mental and physical struggle.

  3. Food is wonderful when shared with people (and actually has greater health benefits!).

  4. Meal prep is important to avoid caving in to unhealthy temptations or alternatives at the end of a long day.

  5. It's easier to stay on course with a support network to hold us accountable.

2. Activity:

  1. Our bodies were meant to move.

  2. Movement comes in many forms - walking, jogging, dancing, yoga, CrossFit, raking leaves, taking the stairs, shoveling snow, kayaking - options are endless!

  3. Find what movement fuels you and embrace it.

  4. Engage in variety.

  5. Small amounts of activity are better than no activity!

3. Socialization:

  1. Humans are communal by nature.

  2. Surrounding ourselves with people like us and those different than us nurture growth.

  3. Listening to and communicating with others help us develop empathy and resilience.

  4. Laughing, crying, achieving goals with others enriches our experiences and our lives.

  5. Being in the presence of others helps gain perspective.

4. Reflection, sleep, and nature:

  1. Creating space for quiet and meditation has shown improvement in job performance and creativity.

  2. Self-awareness is enhanced when we take time to reflect on who we are and who we want to continue to be.

  3. Our minds need time to rest as much as our body needs time to rest. Adequate sleep and meditation are key!

  4. Outside air, trees, nature - provides a beauty and perspective unlike any other free experience.

  5. "Outside" reminds us we aren't alone in this world and that we are a tiny piece of something much bigger.

5. Grace:

  1. My good friend once told me offering ourselves grace is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. Each day we rise, we're faced with the unknown. When we offer ourselves grace with each step, the burdens feel lighter, and we shape our day with goodness. We remember each day is not a given so we work to embrace what it brings with perseverance and reverence.
